About Chlamydia

What are the symptoms?

  • Most people infected with Chlamydia do not have any symptoms; they feel and look perfectly well. However if you, or friends, ever experience the following symptoms you should ask to be tested:

Men:

  • Burning when passing urine, or an irritation of the urethra (pipe).
  • Discharge from the penis.
  • Pain in the testicles (balls).
  • How is it diagnosed?

    • Dorset County Chlamydia Screening asks for self-taken samples to test for Chlamydia.
    • Provide a urine sample, providing you have not passed urine for two hours.
    • The test is very accurate providing the sample has been taken properly.

    What do I do next?

About the test

How to take the Test

Chlamydia can be found in a urine (Pee) sample. It is important that you have not passed urine for at least two hours when you give this sample otherwise you could have flushed the signs of the infection out.

Take the sample bottle provided.

Fill it with the first amount of urine you pass, screw the lid on tight, write you name, date of birth and the number that is on the top left of your request form beginning with a ‘D’. You may put it in the plastic bag attached to your request form, but DO NOT seal the bag until you ensure that your name, date of birth & reference number from your request form is on the container. Hand it into the person running the screening session.
